Flor de Crasto Douro 2021

  • £13.95

The mould-breaking Quinta do Crasto estate in the Douro Valley have given us a small allocation of their highly prized single varietal Touriga Nacional and single vineyard Vinha Maria Teresa. The Touriga Nacional is the quintessential expression of Portugal’s finest grape variety while the Vinha Maria Teresa is the oldest mixed vineyard on the Crasto estate with vines in excess of 80 years old.

This vineyard's outstanding exposure produces fruit of tremendous concentration and complexity. The grapes are foot trodden in lagares with a specially adapted temperature control system and aged in barrique for 2 years before being bottled. The results are quite staggering.

After a rigorous selection of the best grapes, the fruit was destemmed, crushed and transferred to stainless steel vats. The alcoholic fermentation took place at controlled temperature for 7 days. This provides expressive Portuguese red, juicy with wild berries, strawberries, blackberries, all enveloped in a perfume of flowers.

Perfect wih charcuterie and spiced red meats such as pepper steak or chorizo.
